FMM Pro: SUNY Farmers Market Managers Professional Certification Program
In a partnership between the Farmers Market Federation of NY, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County and SUNY Cobleskill; a new online curriculum is under development to train and certify farmers market managers. The course will include all aspects of managing and growing a successful farmers market. The course will be offered online through Moodle.com under the sponsorship of Cornell University.
The curriculum will consist of 22 workshops covering 3 basic topics:
- Nuts and Bolts of Managing Markets
- Reaching Out to the Market Community
- Building Market Systems
Program participants, completing the full curriculum and earning certification, will be given Certificates, signed by the three partnering agencies. As a certified market manager you will:
- Be fully knowledgeable in today’s best practices for managing farmers markets
- Learn tactics to expand and optimize your market
- Be equipped to build relationships with farmers and shoppers
- Be able to use your certification to leverage support and funding for your market
To become certified, you must complete the full 22 session curriculum (coming soon to Moodle.com) within 12 months. With each session, you must complete a quiz and assignment and submit these for review. Once all is completed and approved, you will receive your Certificate.
To maintain your certification, you must earn 2 credits bi-annually but attending special sessions at the annual Farmers Market Managers Conference and specified manager training webinars.

Cost of FMM Pro: SUNY Farmers Market Managers Professional Certification Program: $200 for 12 month access to the online curriculum
To create the online program, a Farmers Market Managers Conference will be held at SUNY Cobleskill November 10 – 12, 2015. The conference sessions have been specifically chosen to cover the full Certification curriculum. The sessions will be recorded and uploaded to the Moodle.com program, along with additional resources, assignments and quizzes.
You are invited to participate in the November Farmers Market Managers Conference for an intense 3 days of workshops, tours of the SUNY Cobleskill Ag Facilities and networking with managers across the state. Participating in the conference will give you a head-start on the certification as you will not need to view the sessions you participated in at conference. Also, for each day you fully participate in the conference, you will receive a $25 voucher toward the cost of the online FMM Pro curriculum.
