Cultivating Success: Making a Website Work for Your Farm Business is a program of the Farmers Market Federation of NY, financed by a grant from the USDA’s Farmers Market Promotion Program. The grant provided funds to the Federation to create this unique program to promote New York State’s farms and farmers markets by helping them to create farm and farmers market websites, as well as teaching them how to use these new websites as promotion tools to grow their customer base and increase profits. Fill out the Interest Form to indicate your interest in this program and receive updates.
Phase one of this project, the farmers websites kicked off January 22nd, 2015 as Program Administrator Galena Ojiem spoke at the Producer’s Expo in Syracuse about the benefits of having a website as well as how to best use your website to market your farm. We then began enrolling farmers in the program and still have limited spaces available for farmers – read on for more details. We are now beginning to accept submissions from markets who need a website.
Enrollees will begin the program by submitting their logo, pictures, and information about their farm or market. Federation staff will then create each farm or market’s custom site using a template which has been designed specifically to promote local farms/farmers markets. The template includes all of the important elements needed to promote a farm business, making it easy for visitors to the site to find information about your hours, programs, products etc. Completed sites will be delivered back to farmers/markets with their first year’s domain and hosting fees paid by the program. Sites are fully ready to be used at this point, but may also be customized and changed in the future by the farmers or market managers, who maintain full ownership over their sites. A bulk discount will ensure lower than normal fees for hosting and domain renewal in the years to come.
The second part of the project is to deliver training to farmers and market managers. Farm and Market websites are nothing more than electronic brochures without a website administrator who knows how to maintain and update the sites. The Federation will be providing each enrollee with a copy of a manual including screenshots that walks the participants though the steps required to add pictures, blog articles, and pages to their website. They will also receive a video illustrating these steps.
We hosted a webinar to promote the project and explain the important elements of a farm or market website – you can view that here: http://nyfarmersmarket.com/farm-website-webinars. We also have an webinar recording that is linked below to help walk you through the steps and answer any questions you may have about updating and changing your site. Enrollment in the program IS limited so interested parties should enroll as soon as possible. To register to receive updates about the program, please fill out the Interest Form.
After doing that, you can also fill out the Website Design Request Form below. Websites will be created in the order received. Please wait until you have ALL information including pictures, passwords etc. before completing the form as incomplete forms may result in a delay in creating your site. Email [email protected] with any questions. Thank you!
