The Farmers Market Federation of New York (FMFNY), a statewide nonprofit organization based in Syracuse, NY, is hiring its next Executive Director. The new Executive Director will provide non-profit/membership organization experience, grant writing and fundraising know-how, and the energy and inspiration needed to guide FMFNY into its next chapter.

FMFNY supports and promotes the viability of New York’s farmers markets through innovative services, programs, and partnerships that maximize the benefits of markets to farmers, consumers, and communities. Under its two executive directors, it has grown into a well-respected and financially stable organization. However, its role in New York State’s local food system is evolving and its new leader will have to work closely with FMFNY’s engaged board of directors to create a new strategic plan and build the programming and funding to support it.

We are seeking someone with a Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant experience. If you are a confident but collaborative leader, we invite you to bring your passion for the local food system, agriculture and entrepreneurial food businesses, placemaking and community-building, food access and coalition-building to this opportunity.

This is a salaried position offering $70,000/year, commensurate with qualifications and with opportunity for annual review. The position is based on a 40-hour work week and includes paid vacation, personal leave, paid holidays, and all NYS statutory benefits. Access to Syracuse, NY is required at least initially, but hybrid or remote work will be considered for the future.

The Farmers Market Federation of NY works with over 700 farmers markets statewide, as well as government agencies, nonprofits, the local farm community, and consumers across the state. Our vision is for building an alliance of farmers markets and market advocates, to help create a network of sustainable markets that offer viable outlets to local farmers, a diversity of fresh local foods to consumers and provides economic and social benefits to the community. As such, we continue to develop and provide resources for market managers, organizers, farmers, vendors, and community members to improve the quality and capacity of farmers markets, and advance the professionalism among farmers market management. The Federation’s main focus is to enhance the ability of farmers markets to create marketplaces that are profitable for farmers, build experiences around local food, make markets accessible to everyone in their community, and to become a vital piece of their community fabric.
